Booking Your Annapolis Newborn Photography Session
We’ll start by scheduling your session months in advance, using your baby’s due date as a placeholder on my calendar. This ensures I have space reserved for your family when your little one arrives.
To secure the session, I’ll send over:
• a contract
• a retainer to confirm your spot
Once that’s completed, we’ll schedule a consultation call where we can talk through your preferences. Some parents love soft neutral tones, while others prefer deeper colors or specific props. We’ll go over your ideas so I can come prepared with everything needed to bring your vision to life.
When your baby arrives, you’ll simply notify me and we’ll schedule the exact session date. Most newborn photography sessions take place within the first two weeks after birth, when babies are typically sleepiest and easiest to pose.
Preparing for Your In-Home Newborn Photography Session
On the day of your session, I’ll bring everything needed to create a complete studio setup in your home, including:
• backdrops
• lighting
• props
• wraps and accessories
Once I arrive, we’ll choose the best place in your home for the setup. This is usually a living room or another area with enough space and natural light.
While I’m getting everything ready, I’ll have you undress your baby down to a diaper and give them a good feeding. A full tummy helps babies fall into a deeper sleep, which makes those cozy newborn poses easier to achieve.
If your baby is still a little awake after feeding, that’s completely fine. I’ll gently rock them until they drift off.
What Happens During the Newborn Session
Once your baby is snoozing, I’ll begin with simple poses on a soft beanbag using a backdrop. These setups create the timeless, studio-style newborn portraits many parents love.
After that, we’ll move into a variety of prop setups, such as:
• a cozy bed
• a rustic wooden box
• a soft nest setup
These different scenes help create a beautiful variety of images while highlighting your baby’s tiny details.
And if your baby decides they’d rather stay awake for a while, that’s completely okay. I can still capture beautiful images with poses that work well for awake babies too.
Throughout the session, we’ll pause anytime your baby needs:
• a feeding
• a diaper change
• a cuddle break
My goal is always to keep the experience calm, flexible, and comfortable for both baby and parents.
Including Parents and Siblings: Lifestyle Family Photos
Once we finish the studio-style portraits, we’ll capture some lifestyle family photos in areas like the nursery or master bedroom.
These images focus on connection and emotion — parents holding their baby, siblings meeting their new little family member, and quiet moments together.
Because these photos take place in your own home, they feel especially meaningful and personal.
We keep this part of the session relaxed and natural so you can simply focus on enjoying time with your baby.
Wrapping Up Your Session
After all the photos are finished, I’ll pack up my equipment and leave you to enjoy the rest of your day.
My goal is always to make your Annapolis newborn photography experience feel simple, calm, and enjoyable from start to finish.
Viewing Your Photos and Choosing Your Favorites
After the session, you’ll receive a private online gallery where you can view all of the images from our time together.
From there, you can select your favorite photographs and choose how you’d like to preserve them. Many families love creating:
• heirloom albums
• framed wall art
• professional prints for their home
I’m always happy to guide you through these options so your images can become lasting keepsakes.
